Did you know
For years, the village of Shere have been used prominently on the big screen, for productions requiring an idyllic, English-village backdrop. It has also appeared on several blockbuster films and TV productions including Bridget Jones and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
The Silent Pool is linked to a tale that says King John on his horse abducted a woodcutter's daughter who was forced into the deep water and drowned. According to the legend, the maiden can be seen at midnight.
Alternative quieter parking along the route can be found on Staple Lane (West Hanger, Staple Lane Car Park). You can also park at the Silent Pool although this also tends to be busy during peak times.
