A beautiful mixed terrain walk along part of the North Downs Way passing Reigate Fort. The upper path offers spectacular views from Colley and Reigate Hill while the lower takes you around Gatton Park designed by the renowned gardener Lancelot "Capability" Brown.

Did you know

Late on Monday 19th March 1945 under heavy cloud the 9 men USAAF crew of a B-17 returning to base at Grafton Underwood tragically crashed into Reigate Hill. A memorial dedicated to the crew exists early on the suggested route.

Reigate Fort, a Victorian-era fort built on Reigate Hill in 1898 offers spectacular views over the Weald. It was created to defend the approaches to London from the potential threat of a French invasion. You pass the fort early on the route.

The Millennium Stones which you pass later on the walk at Gatton Park were created by Richard Kindersley in 1999 to mark the double millennium. The first stone in the series is inscribed with the words from St John’s Gospel. The subsequent 9 stones are carved with quotations contemporary with each 200 year segment.

Don't be deterred by the hum of the M25 at the car park. Things quieten down as you set off on to Reigate Hill.
